Clipping vs UGC: which one should you do?

Clippers cut footage someone else made. UGC creators film their own. The work, the pace, the money and the welcome bonus side by side, so you can pick the one that fits you.

Both make short vertical videos for brands and both are paid per view on The Creators Club. The difference is who made the footage, and that one difference changes the work, the pace and the income.

The work

A clipper gets a long video from the brand or creator and cuts moments out of it. They never appear on camera. The skills are spotting a moment in two hours of footage, writing the one line that goes on the first frame, and cutting tight.

A UGC creator films original videos, usually of themselves: using the product, unboxing it, reacting to it, telling a short story about it. The skills are being watchable on camera, filming clean footage with good light and sound, and telling a story in 30 seconds.

The pace

Clipping is fast and repeatable. One source video becomes 15 to 25 clips. A clipper posts three or four a day per campaign without much effort, and each one is a separate shot at going viral.

UGC is slow and personal. A good UGC video is an hour or two of setup, filming and editing. Two a day is a lot. Each one is a bigger bet.

The money

Both are paid the same way: views ÷ 1,000 × the campaign rate, up to the per clip cap, counted for the 30 day tracking window.

The difference is volume and rate. Clippers post more, so they take more shots, and the math of short video rewards shots. UGC campaigns often carry a higher rate or a higher cap, because the brand is getting a real person showing the product, which sells things in a way a clip of a podcast does not.

At signup you pick which you are, and it sets the welcome bonus: $25 for clippers, $50 for UGC creators, credited when your first clip is submitted. The higher UGC bonus reflects the extra work each video takes.

What brands run each for

Brands run clipping campaigns when they have a lot of good footage (a podcast, a founder who talks well, a launch stream) and want reach. The goal is views and awareness.

Brands run UGC campaigns when the product is something people buy after seeing someone use it: skincare, kitchen tools, apps, supplements. The goal is trust and conversion.

A campaign card says which it wants. Some accept both.

A day in each

Clipper. Morning: watch a new episode at 1.5x, note 20 timestamps. Cut the best four, caption them, export clean, post each to TikTok, Reels and Shorts, submit twelve links. Two hours. Afternoon: check yesterday's numbers, cut three more in the style of whatever did best.

UGC creator. Morning: read the brief, plan one video, set up light and a phone stand, film four takes, pick the best, cut and caption it. Post to three platforms, submit three links. Two to three hours for one video. Afternoon: maybe a second one.

How to choose

Pick clipping if:

  • you would rather edit than film
  • you want to post a lot and learn fast from the numbers
  • being on camera is a no
  • you already watch a lot of long content in some niche

Pick UGC if:

  • you like being on camera and are decent at it
  • you already film things and have a phone stand and a window with good light
  • you would rather make five good videos than fifty fast ones
  • you want to build a face that brands recognize

Plenty of people do both from separate accounts. If you are unsure, start as a clipper. The feedback loop is shorter: you will know in two weeks whether you can find moments, and the welcome bonus still lands on your first clip.

What is the same

Everything on the platform side. Same campaign board, same apply to join, same account verification, same view tracking, same review, same 30 day hold, same withdrawal. The choice at signup only changes the bonus and how your page describes what you make. You can change how you work later; your page is yours.
